Let Exercise Transform How You Play!

There are so many different variables present in golf ranging from the clubs, to the lie, the weather, the ball and so on. What is the constant factor present amidst all of these other conditions?

Your body!

Any significant change in your body will be carried with you for every single shot that you attempt. This is truly the main principle behind instituting a golf fitness program!

The specific benefits that an exercise program will bring you include:

  • Increased force production
  • Improved control for your short game
  • Better posture
  • Increased muscle efficiency
  • Improved endurance to help you get through those long rounds
  • Flexibility and more range of motion

And that is just naming a few!

All of these benefits are explored in much greater detail in Better Fitness, Better Golf.

Injury Prevention

Despite being relatively low impact, golf injuries actually occur quite frequently. The overwhelming majority of these injuries are related to overuse. These issues can sideline you for days, weeks, or months depending on their severity.

The absolute last thing you want is to be injured and unable to golf!

One of the most important things that you can do to prevent injury is to perform an appropriate, and specific, training program. Just picking a bunch of random exercises and calling it your "golf workout" is not going to cut it!

This is where myself and this book come in. Each exercise and training period have been carefully selected and designed to help golfers improve their fitness levels. Improving performance of these golf specific muscle groups will help significantly reduce the risk of suffering a golf related injury.

My career is orthopedic injury prevention and treatment. This is what separates me, and this book, from many of the other golf fitness books available written by those with no formal education regarding injuries.

Divide and Conquer!

What this means is to divide your entire training program up into separate "periods" in order to maximize effectiveness and properly prepare you physically for the golf season.

Better Fitness, Better Golf will teach you exactly which exercises to perform in addition to how many, how long, how intense (and more) for each of these training periods:

  • Off-Season: General stabilization exercises, focusing on targeting multiple muscle groups at once. This period will help prepare you for the more advanced training ahead.
  • Pre-Season: More advanced strength training focusing on specific muscle groups. Also, progression to power development exercises and golf-specific strength training.
  • In-Season: Maintenance phase where your goal is to hold onto all of the strength gains that you obtained during the off and pre-season. The majority of your time during this phase will be spent on the course.
  • Off-Season: Active rest period with low intensity, non-specific exercise.

What Else is Included?

While the bulk of Better Fitness, Better Golf is spent providing you with everything you need to know about setting up a strength training routine, there is much more that you need to know in order to take your game to the next level. Here are some of the other main topics that are covered:

  • Flexibility: No golf fitness program is complete without a solid flexibility and stretching program. The benefits of stretching are numerous, with one of the most important factors for your golf game being increasing your available range of motion. Key areas to target are the shoulders, hips, and spine. However, there are some common misconceptions about stretching that I explain in much greater detail that could actually hurt your performance! Also, a clear delineation is set between "at home" stretches and your pre-round warm up.
  • Cardio: While not typically taxing to your aerobic system, endurance does come in to play with golf, especially with those who walk the course. Walking the course directly down the middle of the fairway is equivalent to walking close to 4 miles (depending on the individual course). As fatigue sets in throughout your round, both your posture and form begin to suffer. This can lead to poor shots, and more importantly, and increased risk of injury. Even performing a cardio workout as little as 2 days a week can lead to improvements in your endurance. Find out more here!
  • Nutrition: Proper nutrition and hydration can also help lead to improved endurance and more energy throughout your round. Learn specific foods to eat (and avoid) as well as quick tips for both your pre and post round meals.

So How Much Does It Cost?

Let's do a little market research first!

For a one time fitness evaluation and internet-based 6 week training routine, many golf fitness professionals charge you a minimum of $150. And that is just the starting point! Additional packages skyrocket from there if you want workout revisions included or even an follow up visit with the trainer. I've seen packages even close to $1,000!

Also, check out how much a private one on one training session costs from a personal trainer. The going average is somewhere around $50 and up. And that is per session!

Other popular golf fitness e-books that I have seen are being sold for $37 and even $57 dollars! Are you kidding me???

Better Fitness, Better Golf can be downloaded by you, immediately, for only $10!

Where else can you get a comprehensive, year long, golf fitness program for $10?

Testimonials

"I really enjoyed the pre-season and in-season chapters.  You broke it down easily for all levels to understand. I think its important to know "why" you are doing things rather than just doing them.

I was also really into what you had to say about the pre-round warm up routines and how it can benefit you. Posture, range of motion, and flexibility are key to playing well, and therefore having fun while playing.

Thanks for the opportunity to read this, I really will be referring to this for many years to come!"

"Loved the book. Due to the fact that the majority of golfers do not participate in any form of training throughout the year, this book gives an easy introductory program for golfers of any age or handicap to follow. The book is precise and provides valuable information on the basics of nutrition, flexibility, strength, and periodization. The goal of any general golf fitness program should be to keep the client on the golf course and out of the physical therapist's office. This program will do just that.
